Good question, with sort of a long answer. Founder Michelle Freed wanted a business name that meant something special. And nothing is more special and meaningful than her two children. After pondering dozens of potential names, she chose a word that combined the two Indiana cities in which both kids were born: Greenwood and Fishers. But it gets better. After choosing the name, Michelle wondered if wooden fish were symbolic in any way, and wow, was she delightfully surprised. Turns out, wooden fish adorn Buddhist temples and are used in various ceremonies, metaphysically symbolizing tranquility and unrestricted freedom. And if there’s anything a person wants a business to be, it’s tranquil and unrestricted. Ahhh, the perfect choice. With a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma, Michelle’s first industry-related job was in college, when she landed a role as a type-setter for the campus newspaper, The OU Daily. After graduation, she moved to Kansas City and then later to Indianapolis, and has spent decades working primarily in advertising/public relations agencies, newspapers and non-profit organizations as a corporate communications specialist. In old school days, that meant writing, editing and overseeing the printing of countless newsletters, magazines, brochures, guides and even fax releases (yes, that is really, really old school). Because of Michelle’s significantly diverse background in writing, design, marketing and the corporate world, she wanted to offer her talents to businesses with personal attention and without the steep prices associated with agencies and design firms.
